Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie enjoy time with the kids

After spending so much time at the hospital before the birth of Knox and Vivienne and then staying another week after their birth before coming home, it was clearly important for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to spend some quality play time with their four older kids.

Although I’m not thrilled with sneaky photos on private property, there’s no denying that it’s incredibly cute to see Brad, Angelina, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh out in their yard, playing ball and running around. It looks like Mrs. Pitt is there as well, as reports have stated. You can see the photos here.

I rolled my eyes over the fact that they thought maybe Angelina Jolie was holding Vivienne in one of the photos. Who holds a baby like that? Do none of the paparazzi have children? Clearly that was a doll that Angie was holding, maybe one of Shiloh’s dolls. Duh.

Supposedly they’re supposed to be off to Greece, though no one has said why. I can’t imagine them wanting to leave for another country so soon because they are going to be tired for some time, unless it’s a prior commitment they can’t get out of. We’ll see if that’s true or not - maybe it’s just Brad for a movie meeting.

Why Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie fascinate us so much

I’ve had several requests to start a new discussion thread, and since we’re all waiting for photos of Knox and Vivienne, I thought now was as good a time as any!

One of the most popular discussion requests I get lately is to have us all talk about why the world is so fascinated with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Obviously, not everyone loves them - that much is obvious by reading some of the nasty comments elsewhere on the Internet. People who dislike Brad and Angelina really do so with vitriol. But on the flip side, many people who admire them are just as passionate in their praise.

The thing is, it’s not just some obvious group that follows the Jolie-Pitt family. There are fans who are teens, in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50, 60s and up. Their fans are homemakers, stay at home mothers, medical professionals, business professionals, fellow actors, and more. And their fans span the globe. It’s not just American fans, or Japanese fans, or French fans. When I get comments sent to my inbox or when I have to go into the moderation queue to push comments through (hi Ligaya, hi Victoria!), I’m able to see where those comments are coming from (generally speaking, of course). It’s amazing to me to see how many different countries my readers come from. We have readers from every continent except Antarctica and I can forgive them for that since people down there are usually pretty busy doing scientific work.

So what is it that makes two celebrities so fascinating to so many different types of people from different cultures and different walks of life? We’re all different but we all have this interest in Brad and Angelina in common.

Tell me what it is that attracts you to this couple (or one of them if you have a preference for one over the other), and maybe guess as to why they have a global appeal. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

(I’ll keep my own thoughts in the comments too to keep this entry from getting too long.)

Welcome home, Knox and Vivienne!

Despite paparazzi up on the rooftops and horrible, scary rumors of paparazzi renting helicopters in a desperate attempt to capture the first photos of Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt on the sly, all the people behind the cameras were foiled. Angelina Jolie, Knox, and Vivienne were discharged from the Lenval hospital and arrived home safely.

Well thank goodness for that, because thoughts of paparazzi chasing down a helicopter departure immediately reminded me of Princess Di being chased for a photo op right before she died.

The family - and presumably Brad Pitt was with them - left in the dark hours, heading out at about 4 am on Saturday morning. Rather than leaving in a helicopter, which was how she arrived, she slipped out by car. According to People, an observer said, “We saw the cars and we thought it was her but we didn’t see anything.”

That’s so wonderful to know that they were able to leave quietly. My theory was that they would slip her down to the emergency room and transport them out by ambulance. The idea would be that no one would think it was Angelina or the Jolie-Pitt twins, that it would just look like an ambulance heading out on an emergency call.

They did, however, elude the press by slipping out the back way. You can read the full story of their well-organized departure here.

Dr. Sussmann, Angelina’s doctor was the one who broke the news to the disappointed paparazzi, saying, “You can go home. The story is over.”

What a relief to know that Angelina Jolie, Knox, and Vivienne are safely at home at their chateau.

Everyone has something to say to Brad and Angelina

Cannes 2008: 'Kung Fu Panda' - Premiere
Image details: Cannes 2008: ‘Kung Fu Panda’ - Premiere served by picapp.com

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may not be novice parents but they’re new to the world of twins and it seems a lot of people are shouting out with words of wisdom, advice, good cheer, and even babysitting offers.

This week’s issue of People magazine has Brad and Angie on the cover (actually so does every other weekly magazine that I saw in the store today), which you can see here. Inside, Wyclef Jean, a friend of Angelina said “I’m willing to babysit for them!” which is a brave offer when there are six kids! Babysitting aside, he feels they’ll be more than able to handle the large group of children, saying “they will do well”.

Meanwhile, People also interviewed an everyday non-celebrity family who have something in common with the Jolie-Pitt family in that they had four children already when they added twins to their family. They advised them that sleep is even more elusive with twins, that they often didn’t get to bed until 1 am by the time they got all the kids to sleep and took care of their own things, and that the father fell asleep while being driven, blindfolded, to a surprise party just because he was so incredibly tired.

Even the family’s eight-year-old daughter was able to give a piece of advice to Maddox Jolie-Pitt. She said, “The babies may stink up the house a little, and they might make some noise. It may be hard, but being the oldest of six can be fun.”

How cute is that?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie score high

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie top rank

One of my favorite sites for general pop culture news and gossip is PopSugar. This week they released their top 100 celebrities. Guess who made an appearance on their list?

Oh except, they didn’t just appear - Brad Pitt ranked in at number two. They refer to him as an A-lister who is getting better with age, and I couldn’t agree more. They also mention his underrated film, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and his two upcoming films, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Burn After Reading. Naturally, they pointed out how he also balances his busy work life so well with his most important role - being a dad - and being a humanitarian.

And, as should be expected, considering the baited breath around the world while everyone waited for her to give birth, Angelina Jolie came in at number one. They mentioned her status as a great mom and a humanitarian first and foremost, then pointed out that she continues to impress on the screen as well. Angie also ranked as PopSugar’s number one female star of 2007, so clearly she’s on a role!

No surprises, really!

Muslim protest group outside Angelina Jolie’s hospital room

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie probably think that the constant media attention that is focused on them is ridiculous since they’re often just going about their daily lives. They aren’t the only ones.

Yesterday, a Muslim protest group held a demonstration outside of the Lenval hospital. They were protesting the fact that Brad and Angie get so much media attention when no one had taken notice of their cause which was to get the remains of a stabbing victim released in time for a proper Muslim burial.

You know what? Angelina would probably agree with them!

Brad Pitt & Quentin Tarantino to meet in France?

According to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily, Quentin Tarantino was meeting with Brad Pitt in France today to further discuss the possibility of working together on the WWII movie Inglorious Bastards. Allegedly several companies (Universal, Warner Bros., Paramount, Sony) are all being pitched but people are waiting to see whether Brad is in or out.

The movie is set to start shooting in October, so a decision will have to be made soon. I think Brad would be great in a war role, and October is still far enough away to give him plenty of time with his new family members.

Did People magazine snag the rights to the Jolie-Pitt twins photos?

Yesterday, Ann Curry of the Today show pushed the London bureau chief of People magazine to acknowledge whether People paid ten million dollars for rights to the first published photos of Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.

What I love is that he was magnificently evasive in his answers. We still don’t know if People will get the first photos, though I think it’s pretty likely since they seem to have a very good on-going professional relationship with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Here’s the video clip:

I particularly like the way she tried to ask if People had paid a large amount of money for first baby photos in the past and he only answered that of course they buy celebrity photos all the time. Good for him! We’ll know when we know.

They also discussed how the new Jolie-Pitt children are doing and addressed the question of whether there’s concern over the fact that Knox and Vivienne were only about five pounds at birth (which doesn’t seem unusual for twins and is, in fact, pretty good).

Brad Pitt is an emotional man

Birth may focus on the mother, but that doesn’t mean the dad doesn’t feel sentimental. According to Dr. Sussman at the Lenval hospital, Brad Pitt was “perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional”. Aww. I love a man who can cry because his baby (or babies in this case) is being born.

He said that the birth was very straightforward with no complications and that Angelina Jolie had an epidural so she was very cheerful and talkative, laughing with Brad throughout.

Although the babies are doing just fine, Dr. Sussman didn’t give a specific day for the family to leave the hospital because in Europe the mother usually stays a little longer. With both my kids I was eager to go home by the end of the second day when I was being given the okay to leave, but after a day or two at home I found myself wishing I could go back so people were there to take care of me! So hopefully Angelina will get a decent amount of rest even though she’s probably fed up of the hospital walls by now and missing her kids at home.

Meanwhile, Brad spoke with the mayor of Nice not too long after helping to cut the umbilical cords of his babies. He told Mayor Estrosi that he is “the happiest father ever”. Apparently he was so incredibly happy that he kept saying the same thing over and over to everyone he spoke to.

The mayor himself signed the birth certificates at the hospital. Afterwards, he spoke to the Nice Matin newspapers and said, “[Brad] told me we chose one of the best hospitals in the world, one of the best doctors, one of the best medical teams. And also the most beautiful bay in the world.”

I can’t wait to see what the babies look like - I love babies!

Brad and Angelina’s babies OFFICIAL!

According to one of the few sources that I count on to be honest and sincere, People, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did indeed welcome their new twin babies this weekend!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie welcome Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline

It happened on Saturday in the Lenval hospital, and they were indeed one boy and one girl!

“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michael Sussmann told PEOPLE Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”

The names were also accurate as well - the boy was named Knox Leon and the girl was named Vivienne Marcheline, an obvious nod to Angie’s late mother. They were both born by c-section and weighed in just around the five pound mark, which is great for multiples. They were born early because the doctors wanted the babies to be born in the best conditions, which may have meant they were concerned about their size.

So exciting!! Welcome to the world, Knox and Vivienne!
